Bailey Partnership was appointed to provide a full multi-disciplinary service for this conversion, upgrade and extension of a Victorian primary school building to create a new SureStart Children’s Centre as well as a modern school environment, as part of the Building Schools for the Future initiative.
The shared use of the school site resulted in two end-user clients and two distinct sets of brief requirements. Our architectural and interior design teams worked closely with both sets of staff and the children to develop a solution that would stimulate and inspire the children in various ways and for every age group.
Exciting and vibrant colours were used to create stimulating rooms, complemented with various other design features, including route guidance using colour coded footprints leading through circulation spaces to classrooms. The challenge was to achieve a cutting edge, modern design solution that was both functional and practical to suit the operation of the Children’s Centre and School.
The staff are extremely pleased with the scheme and feel it has changed the way they work and play in a positive manner to help the children’s learning experience.
