Bailey Partnership provided a full multi-disciplinary, project management led service on this private residential development in Cornwall. The project involved the demolition of an existing nursing home and the construction of a four storey block of twelve two-bedroom apartments and two stunning three-bedroom penthouses with extensive sea views together with associated car parking, external works and landscaped communal gardens.
For this attractive beach side apartment block our architects specified a dual colour option. Using blue curtain walling on the outside which tones well with the nautical environment, the internal white finish does not conflict with the homeowners’ tastes and décor nor does it detract from the fabulous ocean views across Whitsand Bay. The clean lines of the curtain wall facades and doors give the project a contemporary feel, and the use of specialist glazing offers the occupants a dramatic reduction in solar heat gain as well as a good degree of privacy.
The luxury specification was enhanced with the installation of electric underfloor heating throughout. The system has proved to be an economical, clean and controllable form of heating. The cables are laid within the floor which is finished with 15mm tongued and grooved hardwood flooring. The thermostats calculate when the heat must be turned on to have it reach the correct temperature at the required time within each separately controllable area of the 960 to 1300 square feet apartments.
