Our client, Guinness Developments Ltd, worked in partnership with Westcountry Housing Association to provide a mix of rented and shared ownership affordable housing, comprising 26 flats and 68 houses, some with garages.
Consultation with, and input from, the current tenants was of great importance in the planning and design of the new Pottery Quay development. A Community Engagement Project, funded by our clients and the Housing Corporation, allowed residents to be involved in the design and management of their new housing. A Community Participation Worker was in place as a contact point for tenants, and a community centre and play area was incorporated into the scheme. The community centre is across the ground floor of one building and is jointly managed by residents of both housing associations.
Innovative architecture and design were central to the vision for the Devonport Urban Village regeneration project, and the project team worked together with Plymouth City Council's Urban Design team to achieve this.
The project incorporated boundary walls of natural face sawn stone from a local quarry, uplifting the quality of the whole development. The use of the stone on this regeneration scheme enhances the public realm and pride in the overall quality of the urban environment.
