Bailey Partnership was employed by Tamar Science Park as project managers, responsible for the design, construction, fit out and delivery of the headquarters building of the Peninsula Medical School, founded on a unique partnership between the Universities of Exeter and Plymouth and the NHS within Devon and Cornwall.
A new 5,300 square metre medical school, this state of the art educational facility includes teaching space, a 100 seat lecture theatre, offices, CAT 2 research laboratories, simulated ward and clinical skills laboratories, a learning resource centre and restaurant. It traverses the valley between the Tamar Science Park and Derriford Hospital sites in Plymouth.
Our project manager took full ownership of the project from the outset. Stage goals for the design and construction process were set in agreement with the designers and constructor and subsequently met. Our project manager was responsible for reporting to Project Board meetings attended by a representative from each stakeholder. At these meetings, cost and progress reports were tabled and Client changes agreed or rejected.
In spite of the difficulties the project faced which involved a late construction start due to delayed legal and funding agreements, it was handed over on programme, to cost and to the standard of quality required. The users are delighted with the building and the way it functions. The project included over £1 million of landscaping as well as significant road and infrastructure works.
The project was the winner of the Michelmores Commercial Property Award for Building Project of the Year.
