The Range Website Story

In 2016, we were commissioned by CDS Superstores (International) Ltd. to provide a multidisciplinary design service, developing a new 700 person head office, national training centre and exemplary 8000m2 flagship retail store for The Range. The development forms the catalyst for the wider Derriford Commercial Centre and we have carefully considered the wider urban design contributions to the wider site. Following public consultation the scheme is about to go into planning.

 

The development’s design evolved organically, and the final proposal creates a strong visual focus on the international office building and the retail store on the main William Prance Road, the scheme also includes a garden centre, surface car parking and underground parking.

 

A key stylistic decision was to endeavour to break up the mass of the retail warehouse by introducing the branding colours and a variety of materials, alongside playing with the height of the building.

 

The "orange ribbon" purposely links the 'Originated in Plymouth' perforated aluminium graphic with the penthouse office, illustrating The Range's birth and successful growth as well as the fluctuations and fine balancing of profit and loss within the retail sector.
